Exciting things are happening in the Customer Success community! As we gear up for the release of next week’s CS Insider Report, we want to take this time to announce our new series, Community Voices. This series seeks to amplify the diverse perspectives within the CS community. Our first column is with one of CS Insider’s newest Founding Community Leads, Guy Rahamim.
Shalom 👋 (Hello) to all the CS Insiders out there, I'm thrilled to start writing for the community in my corner: "A Guy talking CS".
Today, I would like to talk about the things I've learned while looking for my first CSM role.
Every CSM was once in this position, trying to land their first CSM role. It sure can be challenging, but here are some tips that will hopefully make it easier for whoever’s looking:
✔ Make sure you know the basics of the CS world - look at job descriptions, and make sure you are familiar with the career’s main terms and repetitive keywords.
✔ Did you see a job opening that looks like a good match? The best practice would be to connect with the recruiter or a member of the CS team in that organization, send a DM where you present yourself and that you would be happy to share your CV. When someone from the organization submits your CV, you have a bigger chance of being approached.
✔ A strong LinkedIn profile matters - take the time to work on your visibility. If your profile reflects what you are aiming for, you will be more likely to be approached with relevant offers. There are many tips to share on this part as well, but that's for another corner.
✔ Connect with other CSMs - go out there, approach other CSMs (leaders as well). You will be amazed how friendly people are and how willing they are to answer your questions and don't be afraid to ask for one on one sessions. All of the above will help you develop your networking skills that are important to have for every CSM.
I guess that's it for this corner. Do you have any questions for me? Do you want me to cover other aspects? By all means, I encourage you to reach out on LinkedIn.
